In response to the COVID-19 (CoronaVirus) outbreak and state-mandated orders to shelter-in-place, Vintage House has launched a new initiative to address the growing need amongst Sonoma Valley seniors who are unable to leave their homes.

With support from volunteers, our new service, Vintage House Delivers, launched in March of 2020 and helps Sonoma seniors during this difficult time by shopping and delivering groceries and picking up and delivering prescriptions.

Q: Who qualifies for your program?

A: The Vintage House Delivers program will serve Sonoma Valley seniors age 65+. While many of our programs serve seniors ages 55+, this particular program was designed to support the State mandate to keep seniors age 65+ protected and sheltered safely at home. Q: What types of errands/shopping are eligible?

A: Eligibility consists of food needs, non-food essentials such as medicine, pet food, etc.

Q: What kind of items may be purchased?

A: We can shop for most of your needs, including:

  • Grocery (dry goods, non-perishables)
  • Bakery Items (bread, cakes, cookies, rolls etc.)
  • Produce (fruit, vegetable any type)
  • Frozen Grocery or Prepared Foods (any type of commercially prepared frozen food)
  • Dairy Products (milk, cheese, butter, eggs)
  • Pre-Packaged Foods (salads, entrees, snacks etc.)
  • Raw meat products can be placed in a separate bag at checkout
  • Non-food essential items (toothpaste, paper goods, medicine, vitamins pet food, etc.)

Q: What items do not qualify for the Vintage House Delivers Program?

A: We can not shop for Alcohol, Cigarettes, or Food purchased in bulk

Q: What are Rules and Safe Practice?

A: Safe delivery and service require: good judgment, responsible communication among all parties, safe handling food and money, social-distancing best practices, and personal hygiene.

Q: Volunteer Shopper Personal Hygiene?

A: Vintage House volunteers will follow all CDC guidelines. To learn more click here.  As a volunteer, if anyone in the household is sick or you have been in contact with someone that is sick, please notify us and do not volunteer.

Q: How will the food be safely delivered?

A: No open packages, all food in original containers and in grocery bags provided by the store where food was purchased. Groceries will be transported by volunteers and delivered to your doorstep or front porch. Volunteers are unable to enter your home or assist with putting away groceries.

Q: What precautions should I take when handling groceries that have been delivered?

A: Please practice good hygiene. Wash all produce, wipe down packaging, and thoroughly wash your hands and disinfect countertops after you have put your groceries away.

Q: How do I pay?

A: Check is preferred. We will also accept cash and credit card.

Q: Is it OK for me to tip my volunteer shopper?

A: No, we appreciate the thought but can not accept tips.

Q: What if I cannot afford to pay for my groceries or prescription medicines?

A: Please call Vintage House at 707.996.0311 so that we can help.

Q: Can I call in my order, or must I use the Vintage House website?

A: Yes, you can call in an order to speak with a Vintage House staff member. Our phone number is 707.996.0311.

Q: Is there a limit to the amount of groceries that I can order at one time?

A: Yes.  Because our volunteers are working tirelessly to shop, we are limiting the amount of groceries to two shopping bags.

Q: Can I order groceries more than 1x per week?

A: So that we can ensure that everyone is served, we ask that you provide a complete list of all your essential food and non-food needs for the week.

Q: Can I specify which grocery store where I want my food purchased?

A: We will do our best to accommodate your preference, but we cannot guarantee we will be able to shop at your preferred store. 

Q: If I live outside the city of Sonoma am I still eligible?

A: Qualifying seniors living anywhere in Sonoma Valley are eligible for service through Vintage House Delivers.
